Futbol Club Barcelona (FC Barcelona)
FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 by Swiss businessman, Hans Gamper, and has since become a symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism. The club is one of the most successful in Spain in terms of trophies won. It is also one of the most successful clubs in Europe, having won ten continental UEFA tournaments including four UEFA Champions League titles, the most recent for the 2010-2011 season.
FC Barcelona’s motto, “Més que un club” (“More than a club”), truly defines the club’sobjective and mission. FC Barcelona represents a value system for the community, through running sports and solidarity programs.
The FC Barcelona Foundation
The FC Barcelona Foundation is the entity through which FC Barcelona conveys its corporate social responsibility. All projects are developed based on the following objectives:
- The use of sport as the backbone
- The promotion of education and the positive values of sport
- Children and adolescents as beneficiaries
- The projection of Catalonia through FC Barcelona
Since its founding in 1994, the FC Barcelona Foundation has been an endless source of people’s participation in numerous social, cultural, and sporting activities that the club has organized, and which reflect an advanced society that found in the club and the Foundation the ideal vehicle to promote them.
From 2006 the club has been adhered to the United Nations 'Millennium Development Goals” and yields 0.7 percent of ordinary income from FC Barcelona to the Foundation for its projects. Since 2010, the players and coaching staff from the professional sections of the Club have also donated 0.5 percent of their wages to the Foundation.
The FC Barcelona Foundation, on the basis of experience in the field of sport and values, proposes programs of action aimed at transmitting positive values to children and adolescents, which involves sporting activities as a means to promoting healthy and harmonious growth.
About the partnership with Qatar Foundation
Both FC Barcelona Foundation and Qatar Foundation are committed to unlocking human potential among young people through various projects and programs. We see this new partnership as an opportunity for two organizations who share the same values to work together and develop joint programs aimed at helping to improve lives.
Following a deal struck between FC Barcelona and Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) in December 2010, QF was nominated to be the beneficiary of this agreement, which will run for five-and-a-half years until 2016, through the placing of its name on FC Barcelona’s team shirts and training wear.
