Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) is at the forefront of efforts in Qatar and the Middle East to promote the prevention, care and management of diabetes.
The Association's work has increased in importance since its establishment in 1995 due to the dramatic increase in the incidence of diabetes in Qatar and worldwide.
QDA supports diabetics and their families in leading normal and productive lives by raising public awareness of the causes of the condition and by communicating how it can be managed through regulation of blood sugar levels in various ways.
It works closely with health and sports authorities to encourage members of the community to exercise regularly and eat healthily. Particular attention is devoted to women as family health educators.
It also engages with the medical community, particularly institutions and individuals involved in research and clinical practice in the areas of nephrology, urology and transplantation.
In addition to enhancing and extending the lives of people with diabetes, QDA aims to reduce the economic burden upon healthcare systems.
QDA works in partnership with other organizations and stakeholders, and outreach projects are an integral part of its work. It participates in health assessments and lectures in schools, mosques and hospitals. It organizes mobile testing units, open days and children's events, and it runs a special hotline during fasting periods. It is a regular contributor to international conferences.
