20/01/2010: Qatar Foundation Research Division announces the Sixth Lecture in Qatar Foundation Distinguished Lecture Series.

Qatar Foundation Research Division is pleased to announce the Sixth Lecture in the Qatar Foundation Distinguished Lecture Series.

January 20, 2010

Professor Robert H. Grubbs
Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2005
California Institute of Technology (CIT), USA

"Sputnik, Chemistry and Metathesis"

In 1957 Russia launched the first satellite, Sputnik. This event resulted in an abrupt change in the level of emphasis on science in the US. My career was greatly affected by the outcome of these changes. The lecture will discuss how my career intersected with external events and the important changes that allow my career to advance. On the chemistry side, we will discuss how fundamental science can lead to applications and be part of the present developments in "Green" chemistry.

Date: 20th January, 2010

Location: Texas A&M University, Lecture Hall 238
